Please share Public Policy Alert–HB 1001 with those who feel these issues are important.
House Bill 1001 is currently in front of the Indiana General Assembly’s Senate Appropriation Committee. This bill is important because it seeks to Increase the annual state appropriation for Vocational Rehabilitation services by $3 million per year. This would allow the State to leverage an additional $11+ million in federal dollars per year and the full available federal match of an estimated $76 million for a combined total of $95 million. These additional funds would eliminate the state’s annual fiscal deficit, address the program’s staff vacancies, and serve more individuals with disabilities who are currently being deferred due to the program’s staffing and fiscal challenges.
What you can do! If this issue is important to you personally, reach out to your State Senator and ask them to reach out to Senator Mishler, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, to let him know additional Vocational Rehabilitation funding must be a priority. When you call, you should let your Senator know your name, where you live, your calling about HB 1001 (increased appropriations for Vocational Rehabilitation). Additionally, you should be able to tell them why this issue is important to you (see the below example):
* As someone with a disability. Job training and placement services are critically important to people who have a disability to become independent. I would ask the Senator to speak with Senator Mishler to let him know increased funding to Vocational Rehabilitation must be a priority this session.
